Problem Statement
What are AAA?
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) is a common cardiovascular disease that occurs to almost 10 Million individuals per year in India. The fatality rate ranges from 40% pre-rupture to 90% post-rupture. In this condition the abdominal aorta starts to diametrically expand until the arterial wall weakens and ruptures. I consulted multiple cardio-thoracic surgeons and listed down the therapeutical flaws contributing to the high-fatality.
Aorta Guard is a therapeutical aid to the doctor's. This framework acts as a tool to remove inaccuracy in AAA therapeutics by removing human-estimation and using computational and numerical methods. We use the patient's CT imaging scan to computationally reconstruct the vessel geometry. Using Ansys Fluent and CFD to simulate the blood pressure, we are able to identify the highly stressed regions of the aorta. Using the biomechanical factors affecting aneurysmal expansion we derived a mathematical model to predict the expansion per unit time of the aorta, which helps in estimating the rupture date.
